A 34-year-old pregnant woman with normal function was referred to our Department Obstetrics and Gynecology at Microcitemico Pediatric Hospital, Cagliari, suspected fetal goiter 32 gestational weeks. The case monitored regularly by ultrasound and treated successfully intra-amniotic levothyroxine (L-T4) administration. Intra-amniotic thyroxine to treat fetal goiter

A 35-year-old pregnant woman visited our department and had been treated with 100 µg of daily oral levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. An ultrasonography screening was performed at 25 weeks gestation and revealed a fetal goiter and an increased amniotic fluid volume. Fetal hypothyroidism was confirmed by cordocentesis and amniotic hormone levels at 26 weeks gestation. We treated the mother with 2...

Prenatal diagnosis and treatment perspective of fetal hypothyroidism with goiter.

We describe two cases of fetal goiter in women with no history of thyroid disease. Diagnosis of fetal goiter during antenatal care was made by ultrasound and MRI. Congenital hypothyroidism was confirmed by fetal blood sampling that was treated with weekly intra-amniotic injections of L-thyroxin. One fetus was initially treated with four weekly intra-amniotic injections of 200 μgms of L-thyroxin...

[Prenatal diagnosis and management of fetal arrhythmias].

Reported in this paper are 25 cases of fetal arrhythmia handled at the Gynaecological Department of the Berlin School of Medicine (Charité) over a period of two years. They were subdivided by tachycardiac, bradycardiac, and simple forms, following ultrasound-assisted diagnosis (realtime, M-Mode, Doppler). This proved to be useful for better prenatal management and prognosis. The first and secon...

A rare case of dyshormonogenetic fetal goiter responding to intra-amniotic thyroxine injections.

Fetal goiter was detected by routine ultrasound in early pregnancy, gestational week (GW) 18, in a 28-year-old woman with no thyroid history, normal thyroid hormone levels and no TSH receptor or thyroid peroxidase antibodies. An umbilical cord blood sample was drawn in GW 23. The analysis indicated fetal hypothyroidism with TSH >100 mU/l (reference value 6.8 ± 2.9, mean ± SD), fT4 3.8 pmol/l (r...
